Frequently Asked Questions about NYJTL’s Community Tennis Program (CTP)

  1. What is happening with CTP given the Coronavirus Crisis?

    CTP is still running the free tennis program.
    Mask are optional.

  2. What is the cost of this program? Do I have to buy my child a tennis racket?

    The Program is FREE. There are no hidden fees. NYJTL provides all equipment for use during the lesson, including racquets.
    If a child has his or own racquet we encourage them to bring it. 

  3. How old does my child need to be to participate?

    Any child between the ages of 5 to 18 is welcome to be a part of CTP.

  4. Where are you located?

    In Winter 2022/2023, NYJTL’s CTP programs will run in 9 different locations.

    In Fall 2022, NYJTL’s CTP programs ran in 19 different locations.

    In Summer 2022, NYJTL’s CTP programs ran in 28 different locations.

  5. When does the program start? When does it end?

    CTP’s 2022/2023 spring sites start opening in Mid-November 2022 and will go until April 2023.

  6. What time does the program run?

    CTP Summer Sites will run either 9am-12pm, 1pm-4pm or 9am-2pm.

    CTP Spring Sites will run afterschool 3-6pm or on Saturdays from 9am-12pm or 9am-1pm.

    CTP Fall Sites will run afterschool 3-6pm or on Saturdays from 9am-12pm or 9am-1pm.

    CTP Winter Sites mostly will run Saturday and/or Sunday from 6am-8am or 7am-9am. Times may vary slightly for certain locations.

  7. How do I register or apply? Do I need to bring any documentation? A birth certificate?

    Registration must be done online.
    Each site MUST BE INDIVIDUALLY registered for.
    Feel free to attend as many sites as you like!
    It can be done before going to the site or at the site.

    No documentation is needed. This is not an application.
    Your child can start playing right away!

  8. I spoke to the school but they don’t know about your program. Do I go inside the school to register?

    CTP is not affiliated or run by the school.
    If a location is at a school, NYJTL will be located in the yard or park area by the school.

  9. Can I pre-register? Do I only register once a year?

    There is no pre-registration. Registration must be done EVERY Season.

  10. Who is in charge at the location/site? How will I know who to talk to?

    Every location has a Site Director in charge. Please talk to them concerning any specific questions.
    All NYJTL staff members will be wearing a shirt with NYJTL on the front.

  11. What happens if it rains?
    CTP sites are held outdoors in parks and school yards. In case of rain, please use your best judgement. Classes may be cancelled due to wet and slippery courts.

  12. Do I have to be present during the lesson? Can I drop my kids off?

    This is NOT a drop-off program or day-camp.
    Lessons are usually 1-1.5 hours long and we cannot keep watch of kids after their lesson ends.
    Children under 10 years may not be left alone without the consent of the Site Director.

  13. The program has already started, can I still register?

    Yes! Registration is continuous and OPEN. You can register at any time during the season.

  14. Is there attendance taken? What if I can’t come every day?

    Attendance on any given day is OPTIONAL. If you can’t come everyday that’s fine, it’s your choice whether you can come on a specific day or not. 

  15. What is the schedule for the site?

    Daily Schedules (based on age & ability levels) are established by the Site Director.
    Scheduled lessons are usually 1-1.5 hours.
    Any participant, age 11 and over, depending on his/her ability to occupy themselves while unsupervised by NYJTL staff is welcome to come outside the scheduled lesson time and hit with others not in lessons depending on court availability.

  16. Are there opportunities for my child to play more competitively?

    Yes NYJTL CTP host tournaments throughout the 4 seasons. Speak to your site director for more information.
