Volunteer

There are many opportunities to volunteer with NYJTL as it offers tennis and education programs year-round, in schools across all five boroughs, as well as at our flagship home, the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning. NYJTL’s vision is to enable kids to Grow with the Game and when you volunteer your time, it helps makes a difference in the lives of the youth that we serve.  Both short and long term volunteer positions are available – NYJTL recommends those interested in long term volunteerism, to sign up for a short term position first to fully understand the organization’s needs.  NYJTL thanks you for your consideration!

The Mayor’s Cup – With more than 900 entries, the Mayor’s Cup All-Scholastic Tennis Championships is the largest tennis tournament in the nation. Elementary, middle school, and high school students representing public, private, and parochial schools from New York City.

Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Cary Leeds Center from 8:30 am – 4 pm

The following 20 volunteer positions are needed:

  • On-court assistance
  • Lunch distribution assistance
  • Set up and break down assistance

Chase Return the Serve – NYJTL and JPMorgan Chase bring together 150 students from across the city for a free community event with a variety of engaging lessons in tennis fundamentals, interactive and lively literacy and mathematics activities, and healthy living and nutrition workshops during the three-hour event at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning.

Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Cary Leeds Center from 10 am – 1 pm

The following 15 volunteer positions are needed:

  • On-court assistance
  • Lunch distribution assistance
  • Set up and break down assistance

Boathouse Bash – The NYJTL Boathouse Bash is held every August at the iconic Loeb Boathouse in Central Park. The annual event is a fun and festive evening complete with music, dancing, gondola rides, magicians, and a silent auction. This event typically attracts upwards of 500 attendees from the New York City community, raising funds to support NYJTL programs that make a difference in the lives of children across all five boroughs.

Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park from 6 pm – 11 pm

The following 20 volunteer positions are needed:

  • Registration table attendants
  • Auction registration assistance
  • Set up and break down assistance

Fall Festival– A fall highlight brings hundreds of local children out on a weekend for tennis fun and autumn joys such as pumpkin picking and decorating, face painting and other treats.

Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Cary Leeds Center from 8 am – 4 pm

The following 50 volunteer positions are needed:

  • On-court assistance
  • Carnival booth assistance
  • Lunch distribution assistance
  • Set up and break down assistance

Leadership Luncheon– For over 30 years, 100% of the proceeds from NYJTL’s Leadership Luncheon have directly supported our free tennis and education programs thanks to the Benenson family, who generously underwrites all expenses for this major annual fundraiser. This year’s Leadership Luncheon will be held at The Pierre on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Katrina M. Adams, Chairman and President of the Board of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), and Michael Cayre, President of Midtown Equities, will serve as honorees.

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at The Pierre from 12 pm – 4 pm

The following 10 volunteer positions are needed:

  • Registration table attendants
  • Set up and break down assistance

Serve & Connect – A Police and Community Engagement Initiative, Saturdays from 4-7 pm.  Join kids and police officers from Precinct 42 in this program designed to discuss themes of respect, responsibility, and cooperation between law enforcement and community members.

Saturdays, Scheduled to begin in January – May 2019

CTP Special Populations Carnivals (2017 dates)– Summer tennis festivals serving children with special needs. Special Populations events are held throughout the city; each participant gets a special prize that includes a certificate and blue ribbon.

Summer Jamboree (2017 dates)– A summer highlight brings hundreds of local children out on two Fridays for tennis fun and interactive games.

Friday, July 28 and August 4, Cary Leeds Center from 9 am – 2 pm

  • On-court assistance
  • Set up and break down assistance
