In 1969, tennis champion Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, Eugene Scott and Sheridan Snyder founded the National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) as a way to get inner city kids interested in tennis.
New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) was born in 1970 as the official New York City chapter of the National Junior Tennis League.
NYJTL received 501 (c) (3) charity status in 1974 and has since dedicated itself to transforming young lives through tennis.

New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) is the largest tennis and education-themed community organization in the United States and offers comprehensive school and community based programs throughout New York City's five boroughs serving more than 100,000 youth from ages 6-18.
It is NYJTL's goal to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment, to offer services to help learn and thrive academically, and to provide them with the support and encouragement to reach their potential – on and off the tennis court.
