First Lady Michelle Obama announced in February 2010 her “Let’s Move!” campaign. She indicated the campaign goal is “solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight."
To support Let’s Move and facilitate its goals, the First Lady has coordinated partnerships with States, communities, the non-profit and for-profit private sectors, the nation’s leading children’s health foundations, and Professional Sports Organizations. Among these Sports Organizations are: NFL, NHL, MLB, PGA, MLS and USTA.
Within the First Lady’s physical activity challenge, kids must demonstrate one-hour of physical activity, 5 days per week, for 6 out of the 8 weeks in order to receive a signed certificate from the President of the United States, Barack Obama. States, Barack Obama.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has agreed to support the First Lady’s campaign by providing 200,000 children to participate in the Let’s Move campaign. The USTA has reached out to New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) to provide half that number (100,000) names of children to become involved with the First Lady’s physical activity challenge.
