The Aces Club After-School Programs: offer year-round activities, grounded in tennis, to under-served New York City schools to promote academic enrichment and valuable life skills. Programs are funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
The program delivers: activities for 3 hours, 5 days a week, all day during the Summer and is currently implemented in 16 schools. These activities include: '10 & Under' tennis instruction, match play and invitation to QuickStart Tennis Championships. In addition to tennis, school sites also play basketball, soccer, double dutch, step and other team sports. The program meets for.
Program staff offers: daily homework help to strengthen children's academic skills and integrates STEM and Literacy activities into the variety of programming offerings at each site. Specialized projects can include Lego Robotics, Model United Nations and chess tournaments to develop strategic thinking, civic mindedness and hands-on scientific learning.
A staple of our curriculum is: healthy living and wellness. In addition to encouraging the benefits of physical fitness, we also promote healthy eating through cooking and nutrition activities and lessons. Character education is another primary component of our educational landscape and it helps our youth to appreciate diversity, build strong relationships and be better citizens of the world.
Throughout the year, Aces kids participate: in special events like performances/shows at their sites, holiday celebrations, museum and educational field trips, Arthur Ashe Kids' Day at the National Tennis Center and the Mayor's Cup Tennis Festival and Tournament.
