Scholarships / Awards

Every year, NYJTL offers opportunities for participants to apply for and receive scholarships, as well as academic and athletic awards.

Arthur Ashe Essay Contest

This national writing competition is sponsored by the USTA Foundation. It honors the life of Arthur Ashe by encouraging students to learn, write and explore his legacy. All NYJTL students are encouraged to enter. In 2014, there were 600 entries by NYJTL participants. In 2015 nearly 1,000 essays were submitted by NYJTL.

Mayors Cup Awards

Javitz Scholarships for Public Service

In 2016 the NYJTL Scholarship Committee awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 6 scholar-athletes who demonstrated a commitment to public service. The scholarship program is made possible by the Marion and Jacob K. Javits Foundation. Eligibility requirements include: must be resident of New York City; senior in high school; NYJTL participant for two or more years; accepted to full-time collegiate program. Each individual received an award of $5,000.
